History of the USA: Why Jesus Is So Angry With The USA
1600’s: Before the USA even existed there was a merry band of Pilgrims who anchored at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Unlike their neighbors to the south (the Jamestown ruffians who were a rather irreligious lot), these Pilgrims loved Jesus dearly. Many had escaped persecution from the Church of England. They were fervently anti-Catholic. They kept the 7th day shabbat. They refused to celebrate Christmas due to its pagan roots. They, in many ways, were similar to St. Patrick who had lived 1200 years earlier. Patrick had been exiled from the Catholic Church due to his spontaneous prayers (as opposed to the rote prayers of the spiritually dead Catholics), keeping the 7th day shabbat, celebrating the Leviticus 23 Feasts of the Lord and otherwise causing the pagan Catholic Church much annoyance. The Pilgrims drew their heritage from him, and even further back, to the 1st century Christians themselves. Truly, Jesus was very pleased with this small band of Pilgrims who touched foot on American soil for the first time in 1620.
These Pilgrims made a declaration that can still be read on a dark block at Plymouth Rock today. They had dedicated themselves to winning the natives to Jesus. They hungered to fulfill the Great Commission and be a light to the natives and to the nations of the world. Truly, Jesus was pleased with his humble group of Pilgrims.
Unlike their neighbors to the south — those Jamestown ruffians — the Pilgrims were not interested in picking fights with the Indians. No, they wanted to learn their language so they could minister Jesus to them. They wanted to work with them. In fact, what we celebrate as Thanksgiving today was originally celebrated in October, what is known still amongst the Jews as the Feast of Sukkot. The Pilgrims were not Jewish, but they did serve a Jewish Messiah and this shone through their lives.
As the 1600’s progressed, and colonies were established, it was recognized, for example in the Massachusetts Bay Colony — that Christmas would be totally outlawed as it had nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with paganism. This was such a deep and glowing conviction amongst the early New England colonies, that even 150 years later, when the American Revolution was fought, most Americans still did not celebrate Christmas although it was no longer illegal to do so. Truly the Pilgrims and even, to a lesser extent, the Puritans who followed them, created a firm foundation of a love for Jesus a century and a half before the USA ever existed.
But . . . something happened.
The end of the 1600’s and early 1700’s saw the Puritans and the descendants of the original Pilgrims becoming violent again the Native Americans. The original goal of winning the lost had turned to the power of the sword, following in the same horrible footsteps of the Catholic Church and its Anglican whorish daughter that had persecuted them years earlier. Perhaps the Puritans had grown fat with power as their colonies grew and thrived. Perhaps their distance from the English crown, giving them more freedom than their counterparts in England, had swollen their pride. Whatever the case, skirmishes with the Indian peoples became more frequent, even though not all of this was solely caused by the colonists. The Indians in their savagery were to be blamed as well.
Things had gotten so bad that by the 1720’s, Jesus saw fit to send, by way of His Father, a mighty gust of the Holy Spirit, what would become known as the 1st Great Awakening. This would affect both England and the New England and mid-Atlantic colonies. Men like George Whitfield and John Wesley were powerful torches of burning conviction, preaching the Word with the cutting sword of scripture, and many tens of thousands were swept up by this revival and brought to Christ. New found conviction swept over the 13 colonies. It seemed, for a time, the luke warm shift into worldliness had been checked. The Revival peaked in the 1730’s and 40’s, bringing a new wave of piety and devotion to Jesus. It continued to some extent all the way into the 1770’s.
Then, the American Revolution broke out. I don’t need to rehash all that history, but suffice to say, once the United States had been birthed, we had, despite the revival, fallen far from our Pilgrim roots. Most of the Founding Fathers were deists and not Christians. Thomas Jefferson mutilated the Bible and removed miracles and Jesus’ resurrection from his Jefferson Bible, exalting reason and intellect over Jesus and His power. Benjamin Franklin was a hedonist. Even those few Founding Fathers who claimed to be Christian had problems. Washington was a mason until he finally repented of this and removed himself from that secret society. But humanism and “the age of enlightenment” dominated the leaders of the newly born USA — a far contrast to the humble Christians of the early Pilgrims. Still, due to that amazing revival of the 18th century, most of the American people were living Godly lives, the Bible was read everywhere, and the Holy Spirit had an easy time moving amongst the new nation.
Then, in the early 1800’s, after the victory over England in the War of 1812, the USA began to grow, once again, proud and cold. The people were beginning to think of themselves perhaps more highly than they ought, and the ever present enlightenment of the first dozen or so Presidents continued this horrible trend toward humanism and worship of the self.
But then, in a magnificent miracle, Yahweh and His Son Jesus, brought a 2nd Great Awakening! In the 1820’s, men like Charles Finney and DL Moody and many others began to preach with a fervency that seemed to dwarf the Awakening that had preceded it. Whole towns were shut down as taverns and whore houses ended literally over night, and the people were on their faces crying out to the God they had so offended. Finney in particular, saw tens of thousands of converts who were so deeply and totally repentant, it is said that more than 80% of his converts remained true to Christ until the day they died. Missionary movements thrust from the United States all across the world. Not even the Civil War, which thankfully saw the legal end of slavery in America, could dampen this Great Awakening. The missionary movements only grew stronger as the 19th century unfolded.
After the Civil War, the Reconstruction period brought a see-saw effect to much of the land, especially to the south, as wicked slave holders still bitterly tried to keep people down due to the color of their skin. Even in the North, in a post Civil War era, the age of industry brought with it greater wealth, shorter work hours, more leisure time and with it, the steadily growing decay of lukewarm living. The 2nd Great Awakening gradually faded and by the time the 1890’s arrived, America was in trouble.
The 1890’s were known as the “gay 90’s” due to all the frivolity, leisure and free time Americans were beginning to enjoy due to the immense prosperity that filled the nation. Sadly, even after two spiritual shattering awakenings, the American people were beginning to drift into a spiritual malaise. Due to Victorian England, Christmas began to be celebrated en masse across the nation and along with it, all of its pagan trappings. The purity of the Pilgrims and moral strictness of the Puritans were beginning to fade away permanently.
With such a moral decay continuing into the early 20th century, it seemed to only accelerate with the roaring 1920’s. Now money was flooding the nation, people were more intent on fashion and parties and living in pleasure than obeying Jesus and His Word.
And so it is no wonder, with such a violent departure from God’s grace, that Jesus chose to spank America. The Federal Reserve creation, World War 1 and the stock market collapse of 1929 all served to try to bring the American people back to Jesus, to cry out for His mercy. And while I am certain some in the nation did do just that, it clearly was not a nationwide awakening. We see sparks and spurts of revival in the Azusa awakening of southern California and healing revivals of the 30’s and 40’s, but nothing like the 1st and 2nd Great Awakenings of the 18th and 19th centuries.
In the 1930’s, Yah also brought the Dust Bowl to try and correct the American people. While this certainly humbled much of the nation, the mobilization toward yet another great war, this one being World War 2, exalted the concept of PRIDE. PRIDE seemed to dominate the American people. They were going to pull themselves up by their boot straps and conquer Hitler and Japan, wether Jesus decided to bless them or not.
When World War 2 had been won, and the roaring 50’s commenced, the USA had reached the peak of its power and peace. But, as had happened in the gay 90’s and the roaring 20’s, this peace only served to deepen the laodicean lukewarmness of the church and the American people. Something had to be done. The enemy of our souls was swiftly taking over America!
In the 1960’s we had a spiritual war. On the one hand satan tried to capitalize on the moral decay of America by bringing in the race wars and riots, and black panthers, the free love movement of the hippies and the drug culture and free sex of outright hedonism. On the other hand, the Spirit of God birthed the Jesus Movement which brought waves of those very same hippies into a radical encounter with Jesus. Keith Green, one of the most famous converts of the Jesus Movement Awakening of the 60’s and 70’s, was a mighty pillar of light as he sang and preached, often rebuking backslidden Christians to get right with God in a laodicean age.
The early 1980’s — 1982 in particular, nearly saw a 3rd Great Awakening. Keith Green describes the scene at Oral Roberts university where mass confession of sin was taking place and the Holy Spirit was heavy at the meeting, a true revival of repentance. However, the leadership shut it down, embarrassed by some of the sin being confessed by prominent members within the university, and Keith Green sadly saw the hand of God withdraw. It would have been an earth shattering revival that would have spread from the center of the country and outward to both coasts. But the leadership had stopped it.
The church, however, had experienced a revival of militant evangelism, fervent heat for Jesus! Operation Rescue saw thousands of evangelicals lay their bodies in front of abortion clinics, even being arrested to save the precious unborn babies. Indeed, the 1980’s probably saw the last true resistance to the laodicean spirit that had so dominated the American church.
In the 90’s the booming and prosperous 90’s which had only been interrupted by a brief recession to separate it from the preceding booming 80’s, Clintonian politics was a reflection of how degenerate the US population had become. The churches became lost in a cesspool of compromise, scandal, sexual perversion, adultery and divorce.
In the 2000’s, with the 9-11 attacks literally orchestrated by the Bush cabal, America had lost its away completely. The churches, for the most part, were crumbling beneath the weight of long standing moral decay. Though there were still honest pastors out there and Holy Spirit filled churches rooted in the Bible, the statistics showed that nearly 70% of pastors were looking at porn once a week. The fabric of the nation’s moral fiber was fraying fast into disrepair.
Hurricane Katrina might have brought the people a revival of repentance, but it never materialized.
Obama’s reign brought a level of perversion that could not have been imagined in the decades before, with homosexuality and sodomy being legalized and celebrated throughout the land.
Trump’s prosperity only saw a further elevation of the trans-agenda, as even Trump who pretended to be a Christian, would host sodomite weddings at his home multiples times a year, for multiple years in a row.
In 2021, again near the very same location of Oral Roberts University, Clay Clark and General Michael Flynn launched a counterfeit revival. Because America had refused the genuine revival that would have burst out from Tulsa in 1982, now He would send a false one from the very same city. This hybrid of Christian-nationalism would bring the churches of America from laodicean carnality into full fledged idolatry and Trump worship.
And now we’ve come to 2024. Now the anger and rage of Jesus and His Father, held back for many decades, is about to pour out upon us. Now the wound has become incurable.
Now, dear American people, you see why judgment is about to smash this nation to bits. On an individual level, I implore you to get right and STAY right with Jesus. Faithfully walk with Him in this perverse generation. But a national revival is not coming. Judgment is coming. And coming very soon.
The USA will be destroyed. And Jesus will be exalted in His judgment.
