It Ends With Us: The Deadpool And Blake Lively Effect | Nat and The Guy

The new summer chick-flick came out on August 9th to great anticipation, "It Ends With Us" starring Blake Lively has started making a lot of waves and headlines both because of the drama behind it, and the unconventional promotion that it has had.

This is not a review, but a look at the strategy used to promote the movie, and the relationship between "It Ends With Us" and "Deadpool & Wolverine" as well as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

The movie, based on the book "It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover, which also had it's big moment on TikTok, follows the story of a woman who has witnessed abuse throughout her life, and who now has inadvertently become stuck in the same cycle. While it is a heavy topic to base a summer romance movie around, a lot of the trailers and promotional material do not make an emphasis on it; possibly surprising audiences who have not read the book and go into it with different expectations.

The movie, produced by Blake Lively (who also plays Lily in it) and directed by Justin Baldoni (who also stars as Rylan, the villain character), has also had it's share of controversies. It is rumoured that Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni ended up having a rift over the decisions of the final cut for the movie. Blake Lively also reportedly brought her husband, Ryan Reynolds, to write part of a scene which may have also contributed to the disagreement between Baldoni and Lively.

The promotional aspects of the film were done in a very similar way to the Barbenheimer phenomenon of summer 2023, where a 'girl's movie' and a 'boy's movie' go head to head at the theatre and the box office, however in this case, the movies are coming from a husband and a wife (Blake and Ryan), who are supporting each other in each of their respective movies.
