Iran hackers targeting US election, Microsoft reveals in new report | LiveNOW from FOX

As Israel prepares for an impending attack by Iran, the US is working to combat its own problems with Tehran.

Microsoft revealed in a new report Friday that hackers linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard are attempting to interfere with the US presidential election, targeting a high-ranking official at an unnamed US presidential campaign in a phishing attack and trying to log into the account of a former presidential candidate.

The tech company’s report states Iranian actors have spent months creating fake news sites and impersonating activists, laying the groundwork to cause division and sway American voters, especially those located in swing states.

Fake news sites created included one geared toward a left-leaning audience, insulting Trump and suggesting he is on drugs. Another fake site aimed at conservatives centered on LGBTQIA+ issues and gender-affirming surgery.

Microsoft’s details go beyond anything that US intelligence has ever disclosed, providing specific examples of Iranian groups and the actions they have taken.
