Waterloo Creek Crossing - Nolund on Steele - 7 Aug 2024

On our return leg of our ride I had Nolund (novice rider) have Steele, the 3yr old QH gelding in training ford the creek solo then ford the creek back to the group solo. Initially Steele hesitated, but Nolund was patiently insistent and in a quite short while Steele crossed the creek for him. They did well - see for yourself.

Giving a horse in training the opportunity to build its personal courage AND simultaneously increase its trust in its master is IMO a super important part of making a good horse. Yes you need so solid foundational training - but there is MUCH that you cannot do inside the arena to truly develop a good road and trail worthy horse that will go where you point it. To accomplish that part of good horse training you MUST get outside of the arena and put on REAL miles actually going somewhere. Steele has logged 57.4 road and trail miles from 24 July - 7 Aug 2024 while he has been in training with me. He spent 90 days with another trainer previously and his owner reports that during those 90 days Steele was ridden outside the arena just two times.

Training horses always involves some risk of injury (or even death) to the horse, the trainer, any spectators, equipment used, etc. - this risk is totally your own as you will be making your own judgements on what to do. As with any suggestions on any subject you must weigh them out for yourself and proceed accordingly - at your own risk.

Remember to intentionally, on purpose, learn of God each day by prayerfully reading, studying, and pondering upon God's word each day. Talk to God in prayer as your Heavenly Father who would like for you to be His friend. Find out what He would like you to do for Him as His friend and go and do it for Him as His friend. Yes very intentionally, very much on purpose, become the friend of God. And have a blessed day!!
