Kamala Harris’ Running Mate, Tim Walz Wants to Silence Free Speech—Here’s Why
In December 2022, Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota and running mate of Kamala Harris, expressed that First Amendment protections should not cover statements the government identifies as “misinformation.” During an MSNBC discussion, Walz argued that claims like “mail-in ballots aren’t legal” equate to voter intimidation. He emphasized the need to push back against such claims, stating that free speech does not extend to misinformation or hate speech, especially when it undermines democracy.
This stance has raised concerns among conservatives, particularly in the context of the COVID pandemic, where government efforts to define misinformation were seen as driven by hidden agendas. Walz’s support for limiting free speech has sparked fears that if he and Harris come to power, they might target platforms like X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk. Many have labeled him a radical far-left Communist for his views.
