Burger King Is Overcharging People, Watch Your Receipts!
I was browsing threw Reddit and I saw a sub about Burger King and a receipt clearly showing an unexplained 80 cent overcharge. Others on the thread complained that this happened to them as well, and others saying this has been going on for a long time. I decided to dig more into this, especially since I've had multiple bad experiences with their store by my house. My issue used to be that there wasn't a BK close to me and then they finally put one near my house and I have new issues with BK since then that include things like waiting too long to order because drive thru was closed and I went in and still couldn't get a worker to take my order and 2 different staff members saw me. One of the workers said someone would be with me shortly and yelled back to the manager that she had a customer. The manager was the one that told me drive thru was closed I had to go in and order so she knew she potentially had a customer before I even went into the store. Other issues I had is getting parked multiple times for small orders such as 2 sandwiches and then they have the nerve to give me cold fry's after being parked and waiting over 5 minutes for my food. I live in the suburbs and I miss the 2 Burger Kings in the hood where I lived for most of my life. To my knowledge, I haven't been overcharged but I didn't look at the receipts but I will now.
At first, it appeared that the problem is with the app, but then I started finding people that didn't use the app were being overcharged as well. The more I dug into this, the more I see that overpricing is a major problem at BK and they are fully aware of it. They offer people a few dollars in free food but never fix the overcharging problem.
In 2017, a Maryland women did a little test with the Croissan’wich. She used a BOGO coupon and ordered 2 Croissan’wichs and was charged $3.17. On a new order, she ordered only Croissan’wich and was charged $1.90 when the price should have been the same.
Reports about BK overcharging people go back years, in 2016 a Canadian women was overcharged by £700 and wasn't given receipt and to make it even worse the food was wrong.
In a 2018 article I found, Burger King charged this man over $1000 for a Whopper during their WhopperDetour promo where customers could get a Whooper for a penny if they used the BK app within 600 feet of a McDonalds.
Other customers claim that they were charged twice for their food because the BK worker said their card didn't go threw and they had to run it again and the were charged twice because of this.
I found a post from 2021 with proof from their receipt that shows they were charged £9.46 for a happy meal that was supposed to be £2.99. This leads me to believe that America is not the only customers suffering from BK's skimming issues.
