According to a new report, the incomes needed for families to live comfortably in the United States has risen by astronomical rates. The study, Smart Asset’s 2024 Study titled “Salary Needed to Live Comfortably” found this:
In the United States, in order to live comfortably, without the pressure of living paycheck to paycheck, a family in a major US city with two adults and two children must make an average income of $235,000.
And to make matters worse, in six US cities, including San Francisco, San Jose, Boston, Arlington VA, New York City, and Oakland CA, a family needs over $300,000 to make ends meet.
On the lower end of the spectrum, four out of five cities with the lowest incomes were located in Texas, with the lowest being Houston, Texas. In Houston, two working adults with two children would need a combined salary of $175,219.
