A crew from Sky News was forced to stop broadcasting on Monday night, after being targeted by a group of Muslim men ‘defending’ the area. Becky Johnson was reporting live from Bordesley Green in Birmingham, as hundreds of armed Muslim men gathered in response to a conspiracy theory posted online which suggested the long-defunct ‘English Defense League’ (EDL) would show up.

When this failed to materialize, the men instead turned their anger on other targets, including Johnson and her crew. The crew were forced to cut away after being surrounded by a group of men in balaclavas, who began hurling abuse at them. Another man attempted to slash the tires of the crew’s van, in an attempt to stop them getting away. Luckily this failed, and the crew were able to escape safely.

Sky News themselves posted this footage to social media only to hastily remove it, leading to people questioning why a video of this ‘peaceful protest’ would be taken down.
