It's the end of an era. Game Informer, a magazine that has been a staple in the gaming community for 33 years, has been shut down by its parent company, GameStop. Growing up, Game Informer was one of the magazines I eagerly awaited every month, and I've subscribed to it for years. It's hard to believe that such a significant part of my gaming journey is now gone.

In a heartfelt message, Game Informer thanked its readers for their support over the decades. The magazine was known for its in-depth reviews, insightful editor columns, and exclusive previews of upcoming games. It was a trusted source of gaming news and interviews with industry bigwigs that few others could match.

The announcement came with the sad news that the entire Game Informer staff was laid off, some finding out through social media. They were 70% done with the next issue, but now, that will never see the light of day. GameStop, which purchased Game Informer in 2000, has yet to comment on the shutdown.

Game Informer stood tall among other iconic publications like Game Pro, Electronic Gaming Monthly, and Nintendo Power. It was the last major print gaming magazine in the U.S., serving as a bridge from the pre-internet days to the digital age. For many of us, flipping through its pages was our window into the gaming world, long before blogs and YouTube took over.

It's a sad day when good printed media like Game Informer has to shut down, while outlets like Kotaku are still around. This marks a big change in the gaming scene, and the loss is deeply felt by many who grew up with the magazine.
