There was a day that Jesus was in the temple. There was "a man" there that had a withered hand. The religious elite watched Jesus to see what He would do. They were trying to find something to accuse Him of breaking the law of the Sabbath.
Jesus seeing the man, said to him, "Arise, Stand forth." He then proceeded to question the Pharisees.
"Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other." Mark 1:1-5.
What happened that day is for all time, for all people who have withering things in their lives. It could be your health withering, or your marriage, job or finances withering. It could be things intensely personal. It could be spiritual things withering when at one time you enjoyed reading your Bible, or had good consistent prayer time.
Jesus did not bother really with the Pharisees. I am sure that when Jesus looked angrily at them, he also had a heart-melting, tender look on His face towards the man whom He restored before all that day.
The Pharisees were silent, but I doubt that man with the restored hand was not, but rejoiced with great rejoicing and "full of glory" with his whole family.
Arise, Stand forth....Stretch forth your hand. Christ is looking at you with intentions to restore you completely.
"Let hard-hearted sinners tremble to think of the anger with which he will look upon them shortly, when the day of his wrath comes. The great healing day now is the sabbath, and the healing place the house of prayer; but the healing power is of Christ.
The gospel command is like that recorded here: though our hands are withered, yet, if we will not stretch them out, it is our own fault that we are not healed. But if we are healed, Christ, his power and grace, must have all the glory." ~ Matthew Henry
