My name is Miguel Corte-Real, and I am here to share the story of my daring explorations with my brother Gaspar in the New World, an adventure filled with discovery, mystery, and a quest for the unknown.

I was born in the late 15th century in Portugal, into a family with a rich maritime tradition. My father, João Vaz Corte-Real, was a notable navigator, and from a young age, the sea was my home and my passion. My brothers and I were raised with tales of exploration and the promise of new lands across the vast Atlantic.

In the year 1500, my brother Gaspar Corte-Real set out on an expedition sponsored by King Manuel I of Portugal, aiming to find a Northwest Passage to Asia. The promise of new routes and undiscovered territories drove him across the ocean. Gaspar reached the shores of what is now believed to be Newfoundland or Labrador, encountering vast, untamed landscapes and the native peoples of these regions.

Eager to continue our family's legacy and driven by my own sense of adventure, I joined Gaspar on his subsequent voyage in 1501. Together, we sailed into the unknown, navigating treacherous waters and battling the elements. Our journey took us further into the mysterious lands we had only heard about in tales.

Tragically, during this expedition, we faced unforeseen challenges. My brother Gaspar disappeared, lost to the sea or perhaps the wilderness. Determined to find him and continue our mission, I embarked on another voyage in 1502, this time leading the expedition myself. I searched tirelessly for any trace of Gaspar, driven by both familial duty and the explorer's relentless spirit.

However, my own fate took a mysterious turn. Records of my journey abruptly end, leaving historians to wonder what became of me. Some believe I might have been shipwrecked, while others suggest I might have been taken captive by the native peoples. The mystery of my disappearance remains unsolved to this day.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding my final days, the legacy of the Corte-Real family endures. Our expeditions contributed to the European understanding of the North American continent, and our efforts paved the way for future explorers who would map and colonize these distant shores.

Reflecting on my life, I see a story of bravery, determination, and the relentless pursuit of discovery. I hope my journey inspires you to embrace the spirit of exploration, to seek out new horizons, and to approach the unknown with curiosity and courage. May my tale encourage you to learn from the past and to venture boldly into the future, wherever your own paths may lead.
