The Historic Revival of Co-living: Affordable & Convenient Housing Solution

While living with roommates or co-living as it's now become known is considered to be a relatively new trend in residential living. It is actually as American and historic as apple pie. As far back as the 1800s rooming houses blossomed across the country providing affordable housing for millions of people. Whether they were among those who built our nation's railroads like my great grandfather or someone who is just starting to make their way in the world, these rooming houses were an essential rung in the economic ladder. Many of them were located in central urban districts close to restaurants urban life laundry services and employment which made them convenient in addition to being affordable. But unfortunately, as we approached the end of the 20th century rooming houses had virtually disappeared from the housing landscape and housing affordability had disappeared with them.
