On July 12, 2024, I explored the Lostine River Zone in Wallowa Whitman National Forest on the edge of Eagle Cap Wilderness approaching from the North. I stopped at every piece of infrastructure in the area with a focus on Campgrounds and Hiking Trails.

This is Turkey Flat Campground (not currently even on Google Maps), on the map it is before French Camp Log Cabin Shelter Picnic Area. There are 4 Campsites, all First Come, First Served. Campsite #1 was occupied but not great in my humble opinion because it was very exposed and directly visible from the main Road. This Video Highlights Campsites #2, #3, & #4. I would rank them 1st - #3, 2nd - #4, 3rd - #2. Campsite #4 is Hike-In where you have to carry your gear a short distance, whereas Campsites #2 & #3 are classic Car Camping style. I was particularly blown away by some Stairs at Campsite #3 that take you directly into National Wild & Scenic Lostine River, great for fishing or just cooling off on a hot summers day!

In my opinion, Campsites #2, #3, & #4 at Turkey Flat Campground are in the Top 10 OVERALL Campsites amongst the 8 Developed Campgrounds along the ENTIRE Lostine River Zone in this Northern Approach into Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Eagle Cap Wilderness, so I highly recommend!

Adjacent to Turkey Flat Campground is an Informational Sign called "Salmon & Trout in a Forest Stream" about the Life Cycles of Fish. It overlooks National Wild & Scenic Lostine River and has a grassy Shoreline to Lostine River. I included that in this since it is a point of interest landmark and part of the Turkey Flat Campground greater area.
