So we have come to the gate of the garden of Gethsemane, so let us enter: but first, let us take off our shoes, like Moses when he saw the bush burning with fire that was not consumed. Surely we can say with Jacob, “How terrible this place is!” I fear the task before me, for how could my feeble speech describe these agonies, for which loud cries and tears would scarcely be an adequate expression? I want, together with you, to review the sufferings of our Redeemer, but may the Spirit of God prevent us from any out of place thought or from our tongue expressing a single word that is derogatory to Him, whether in His immaculate humanity or in His glorious Deity .
