The Guillemot, or Uria aalge if you want to sound clever, is a seabird you might spot around the UK coast. These birds are pretty amazing - they can dive super deep underwater, sometimes over 100 metres! That's like diving the length of a football pitch.
Guillemots are about the size of a small duck, with dark brown or black feathers on top and white underneath. They've got long, pointed beaks that are great for catching fish. You'll often see them huddled together on cliffs in huge numbers - they love company!
These birds are proper tough cookies. They spend most of their time out at sea, only coming to land to breed. When it's time to have chicks, they don't even bother building nests. They just lay their eggs right on the bare rock!
Sadly, Guillemots face some challenges. Oil spills and fishing nets can harm them, and climate change is messing with their food supply. But conservation efforts are helping to protect these cool birds.
