Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh reportedly assassinated

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard announced Wednesday, though no one immediately claimed responsibility.

Israel was quickly blamed for the assassination, having previously vowed to target Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders in response to the group’s October 7 attack on Israel, which left 1,200 dead and around 250 abducted, according to the Associated Press.

Haniyeh was in Tehran for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s swearing-in ceremony, Fox News has reported.
