Enhancement inspired by Dave Volsky | Sept. 11, 1983 - A 435-yard total offense performance by the Lions was offset by four Brian Sipe touchdown passes as Cleveland took Detroit's home opener, 31-26. The Lions' 329 passing yards, led by Leonard Thompson's 179, set a blistering pace. Thompson's day was the fourth best ever by a Lion and most efficient since 1952. Tight end Ulysses Norris had his finest pro game, grabbing four passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Doug English picked up his second safety in as many weeks. His three career safeties left him one shy of Ted Hendrick's NFL record.
