Growing up in North and East Tulsa, Mark's family history reflects the rich tapestry of Oklahoma's past, with roots tracing back to miners, construction laborers, and migrant farm workers. As a husband, father, and grandfather, Mark values the importance of family in shaping society's aspirations. Grounded in his faith as a devoted follower of Jesus, Mark carries forward the values instilled in him by his upbringing.

With a heritage spanning generations in Tulsa, Mark's family history is intertwined with the city's growth and evolution. From the Fords' arrival in the 1910s to the Garcias' migration from Mexico, Mark's ancestors contributed to Tulsa's development, from excavating foundations during the Oil Boom to working in bakeries and construction trades. Mark's educational journey, from Tulsa Public Schools to graduating cum laude from Holland Hall School, reflects his commitment to academic excellence and personal growth.

Mark's passion for social justice and community activism took root during his college years, where he forged friendships and alliances with like-minded individuals, including a young Barack Obama. His involvement in campaigns against apartheid and his subsequent leadership roles in student government demonstrate his early commitment to effecting positive change. Throughout his legal career, Mark has remained dedicated to serving his community, whether through his professional practice specializing in bankruptcy law or through his involvement in local government boards and commissions.

As a cancer survivor, Mark's personal journey has imbued him with a profound sense of urgency for national healing and reconciliation. He believes that Oklahoma, with its unique blend of cultures and histories, can play a pivotal role in fostering unity and understanding on a broader scale. Alongside his wife, Sarah, Mark is an active member of the Sanctuary Church in Midtown Tulsa, where he continues to engage with and contribute to his community.
