Death of Police Officer in Training - End of Watch for a Rookie

On July 14, 2023, four officers from the Fargo Police Department were attending to a traffic accident when chaos broke out. Without warning, a shooter armed with a .223-caliber rifle began firing at them. This rapid-fire ambush, which lasted nearly two minutes, critically impacted the responding officers.

Tragically, 23-year-old Officer in Training Jake Wallin was killed in the line of duty during this shootout, marking his End of Watch. He was a veteran Sergeant of the National Guard with tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes, along with a civilian bystander, were also wounded in the assault.

Everything was captured on the body cams of the involved officers.

In the aftermath, law enforcement discovered a disturbing cache of weaponry in the assailant's vehicle: multiple firearms, 1,800 rounds of ammunition, a homemade grenade, and various explosives. These findings led investigators to believe that the attacker had likely intended to carry out a far more devastating assault.
