On Monday, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado claimed that the opposition has 73.2% of the voting tallies from Sunday’s election, suggesting a significant victory.

Meanwhile, Pedro Urruchurtu, an adviser to Machado, reported that security forces were attempting to enter the Argentine embassy in Caracas where six asylum seekers from Machado’s campaign are staying.

Protests erupted across Venezuela after President Nicolás Maduro declared victory, despite opposition claims and independent exit polls indicating a landslide win for Edmundo Gonzalez.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) announced Maduro’s win with 51% of the vote, extending his rule for another term.

The U.S. and other countries expressed doubts about the results, calling for transparency, the South China Morning Post has reported.
