Galatians: Written by the Apostle Paul to the Christian churches in Galatia, (exact location is uncertain), that were being disturbed by a Judaizing faction. The epistle was likely written from Ephesus about 53–54 A.D. to a church he had founded in the territory of Galatia, in Asia Minor (though there is some uncertainty about the date of the letter’s composition).
The members of this faction taught that Christian converts were obliged to observe circumcision and other parts of Mosaic Law. They repudiated Paul’s statements to the contrary by denying the legitimacy of his apostolic calling. In rebuttal, Paul defends his credentials as a true apostle of Jesus Christ (providing important autobiographical information while doing so.)
