Three tips to harvesting cantaloupe

1. Nature is usually the best indicator and if your cantaloupe has completely come off the vine then it is time to harvest it. Normally this occurs when it's gotten so ripe that the vine just lets it go. One can normally Harvest it and eat it at the same time when this happens. Keep in mind it will probably also go bad quicker as it's gotten so ripe outside that it released itself.

2. The color is another wonderful sign. It will get a beautiful peachy orange color like you see here. It can also be slightly green with some orange blush starting to show. At this point you could also harvest it; you'll need to keep it on your counter for a little bit of time though to make sure that it completely ripens and is ready to eat. I like to pick them slightly green and slightly orange when I know it will be a few days before I can actually enjoy it.

3. And three, the smell! Of course the smell is three. One can start to smell their cantaloupe as soon as it starts to blush and especially when it has been over ripening outside. Cantaloupe has a sweet strong smell and once you start to smell the sweetness then you know that it's ripening inside.
