Traveling around Cayuga Lake there are many opportunities for birding. The Cayuga Lake Osprey Trail is one of the seasonal opportunities to take advantage of right now. They are not birds that summer and winter in our four season state. Osprey or Fish Hawk are found in artificial nesting locations surrounding Cayuga Lake. These birds are migratory and will be returning to South America for the colder season within the next month or so. They will be traveling through areas like Cuba to reach South America. These birds only nest for a short period before returning.
