The Book of Psalms is a collection of 150 ancient Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers that come from different eras in Israel’s history¹. These psalms express a wide range of human emotions and experiences, from cries of lament to shouts of praise².

The Psalms are divided into five books:
1. **Book 1**: Psalms 1-41
2. **Book 2**: Psalms 42-72
3. **Book 3**: Psalms 73-89
4. **Book 4**: Psalms 90-106
5. **Book 5**: Psalms 107-150²

Many of the psalms are attributed to King David, but other authors include Asaph, the sons of Korah, Solomon, and even Moses¹. The psalms were used in Israel’s temple worship and have been cherished by generations for their depth of feeling and spiritual insight¹².
