Why a Container Home?

In this video, we explain why we chose to build our home from shipping containers. We go into detail explaining how the location of the build played a huge role in our decision. Plus, we always like a good challenge.

We are a couple that sold everything and left our city life behind to start a new adventure, building an off-grid shipping container home from the ground up on a 42 acre homestead. It will be powered entirely by renewable energy and on property resources. From solar and wind power to rain collection and waste recycling, our plan is to be completely self-contained, living entirely off-grid on our own regenerative farm. 🌞

In this video, we take on clearing our land with just the two of us...with the help of a couple of tractors too, of course (lol). We discuss cutting down trees, wood chipping and burning our cut timber. All in all, we cleared approximately 4 acres of our heavily wooded acreage for our homesite.

In the beginning, we considered hiring out for this task because we had never done anything like this before, but what's the fun in that?!?! LOL! The amount of money we saved by choosing to do it ourselves, we were able to purchase our own excavator and it has played a PIVOTAL role in our build thus far. We couldn't be happier with our decision.
