Bodycam captures moment cops take down drug-dealing biker who dragged officer along the ground

New bodycam footage shows the moment a drug-dealing motorcyclist was taken down by cops after trying to evade capture.

Middlesbrough's Michael Hill, 22, tried to flee from police on May 1, after he was spotted in the Longlands area of Middlesbrough. Teesside Crown Court heard he was apprehended after police received reports drugs were being sold by a gang on motorbikes.

Hill was seen riding a motorbike by two officers on patrol but tried to flee when they approached him. A sergeant in plain clothes riding a pedal bike then arrived at the scene, but the defendant failed to slow down or take evasive action and crashed into him.

The court heard the officer was dragged along the floor, but another constable managed to grab hold of the defendant, and he was detained. New footage has now been released of the arrest.

The Raby Court defendant later pleaded guilty to the following charges:

Dangerous driving
Possession of class A drugs with intent to supply
Possession of class B drugs with intent to supply
Possession of criminal property
Possession of an offensive weapon
Driving without insurance
Driving without licence

His barrister, Michele Turner, said Hill tried to steer past the officer but didn't have room and hit him. She argued he had a lesser role in the drug gang and asked for credit for his guilty pleas.

On Wednesday, July 24, Hill was handed a two-year intensive supervision order at Teesside Crown Court.

Following sentencing, Middlesbrough proactive team Sergeant John Sproson said: “I am satisfied with the sentence handed to Michael Hill. Officers are committed to listening to communities’ concerns and tackling the illegal use of off-road bikes, and anyone who uses them in criminality and antisocial behaviour. Please continue to report any drug dealing and criminality to police, we are working hard to tackle these issues and put those responsible before the courts.”
