On Friday, wildfires ravaged communities across the U.S. West and Canada. A lightning-sparked blaze in rural Idaho forced evacuations, while a human-caused fire in northern California led to the evacuation of hundreds of homes.

In eastern Oregon, a pilot died in a crash while fighting one of the many wildfires burning across the region.

The National Interagency Fire Center reported over 110 active fires covering 2,800 square miles in the U.S., driven by extreme heat and dry conditions exacerbated by climate change.

The Park Fire in Butte County, California, which started when Ronnie Dean Stout allegedly pushed a burning car into a gully, has destroyed more than 130 structures and remains uncontained, burning over 278 square miles, the Associated Press has reported.
