East LA Deputies Recover Stolen Vehicle, One Juvenile Suspect Shot

On July 2, 2024, at 1:14 p.m., a deputy assigned to East Los Angeles Station was patrolling Atlantic Boulevard in the city of Commerce when he located a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle came to a stop in a nearby alley.
The driver and rear passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A third individual remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. The driver was later identified as a 16-year-old juvenile from the city of Los Angeles.
The rear passenger was later identified as a 14-year-old juvenile from the city of Lancaster.
During a search of the area, the 16-year-old juvenile was located on the roof of a nearby residence and was taken into custody without incident. The 14-year-old juvenile was not located during the search operation and the search was terminated. While deputies were waiting for a tow truck to recover the stolen vehicle, residents alerted them to the 14-year-old juvenile running north on Cowlin Avenue.
Deputies searched the area and observed him hiding behind a parked vehicle. As a deputy approached him, the 14-year-old juvenile produced a handgun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The 14-year-old juvenile sustained gunshot wounds to his body. Deputies rendered first aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. The 14-year-old juvenile was transported to a local hospital, where he received medical treatment and he was listed in stable condition. There were no other persons injured in the incident.
