Sept. 30, 1984 - Despite an 81-yard scamper by Billy Sims, the Lions fall to the Chargers, 27-24, at San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium. Sims also rushes for 119 yards and 2 TDs, but his performance coupled with a terrific outing by QB Gary Danielson wasn't enough to keep the Lions from dropping to 1-4 on the season. Danielson matched San Diego Hall of Fame QB Dan Fouts every step of the way, completing 20 of 25 attempts for 269 yards while Fouts is 22 of 35 for 268 yards. What looked to have the makings of a rout after the Chargers forged to a 24-7 halftime lead became a close contest as Detroit scored two third-quarter touchdowns to narrow the gap to 24-21.
