I was looking at a verse today that I really gave deeper thought to in Proverbs 12:27:
"The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious."
The "slothful man that roasteth not that which he took in hunting" describes the kind of Bible reading that fills the notebooks with endless notes, but stops at that. Everything is meant to be turned into some use. What we learn is meant to be given to others sooner or later. It is the living word and it must have an outflow.
Commands are meant to be obeyed, promises are meant to be trusted and lived upon. What are we doing with what we find in our Bibles? What about the beautiful verses found and marked yesterday? Did we turn it into life? Did we use it for our precious substance for our nourishment in weakness, or encouragement in difficulty, or victory in temptation, or joy in weariness, or peace in strife?
The substance of a diligent man is precious, it counts for something. It must not be left like the talent in the napkin to nothing to anyone. What and who is precious to you? Your life will flow with the eternal life of the Living God.
"Unto you therefore which believe he is precious." 1 Peter 2:7.
Read your Bible and let every word be turned into life and light beyond light.
"I urge you a nearer communion with Christ, and a growing communion. There are curtains to be opened in Christ that we have never seen before. Therefore dig deep, and sweat, and labor. Take pains for Him, and set aside as much time as you can in each day for Him."
~ Samuel Rutherford
