Those About to Die Review | Those About to Die Season 1 Review

With the Gladiator 2 trailer showing some worrying signs, the good people of Rome NEED some good Roman content to sink their teeth into. And Those About to Die seemed like it was poised to fly under the radar and satisfy people who yearn for some good, gritty, realistic stories from the time of Ancient Rome. Unfortunately, Those About to Die just doesn't scratch that itch. It's mediocre from start to finish and it seems like a half-hearted attempt at crafting a Game of Thrones style show set in Ancient Rome. But it ended up just being a shallow caricature of that kind of show, with an overemphasis on blood and sex without any good writing or interesting characters to back it all up and give it meaning. On the bright side, Those About to Die gives us a pretty good vertical slice of life in Rome at this time, from the Emperor himself to lowly slaves. And there are some good chariot races to take in. But it's not the quality of show that Rome deserves.
