"The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery" (also known as "Saint Louis Bank Robbery") is an American heist film released in 1959, directed by Charles Guggenheim and John Stix. The film is based on a real-life bank robbery that took place in St. Louis in 1953. The plot follows a group of career criminals who recruit a young college dropout, George Fowler (Steve McQueen), to be their getaway driver for a meticulously planned bank heist. However, their scheme quickly unravels as tensions rise, mistakes are made, and the robbery takes a violent turn.
The film offers a gritty and realistic portrayal of the events, highlighting the desperation and brutality of the criminals involved. Steve McQueen's performance as the young and naive George Fowler, who gets caught up in the world of crime, is a standout element of the film.
