Ruger American Ranch Rifle Review | 5.56 NATO

The #ruger American Ranch Rifle has been around for quite some time. This one, chambered in #556 NATO comes in a gorgeous #FDE colour and polymer furniture.

While it's a decent rifle for some range fun, it's really designed to be taken into the great outdoors. A reliable, though stubborn #boltaction design helps you to slow down and make your shots count. And, being chambered in 5.56 NATO, it's affordable to shoot, too.

The furniture is just polymer, unfortunately. That means that you're not getting much in terms of luxury. What you lack in luxury you more than make up for in convenience though, with an ultimately light and nimble rifle that you can take with you.

The stock, while fixed, provides ample length of pull (though, not adjustable) and a soft butt pad to cushion the recoil, which is relatively light. Resting your cheek on top can sometimes feel uncomfortable due to the lack of a proper cheek rest, but is tolerable in short bursts.

The swept, angled grip is large enough for big hands, though too angled for my personal taste, and is also polymer, like the entire body of the firearm. The fore-end is equally textured for a better grip.

The 16.1 inch barrel is cold hammer forged so it should last a long time and be easy to clean. And, with a thread on the tip, you can remove the thread protector and attach your favourite muzzle device (not included).

The trigger is satisfying, fairly light, and adjustable. At 4 lb from the factory, and adjustable from 3-5 pounds, it feels nice once the break happens. But due to the inbuilt safety mechanism, the uptake, which would otherwise be minimal, feels like it's mushy and unresponsive.

An included pic rail is great for mounting a variety of hardware, and the double swivel mounts offer a variety of mounting options for bipods and slings.

The rifle offers very decent accuracy for its price point, hovering around the 1-1.5moa mark, though mostly closer to the 1.5 mark in my testing.

Overall, it's a relatively affordable rifle, and though rough around the edges should do a good job as your utility rifle of choice to take outdoors.
