Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s failure to mention a Gaza ceasefire proposal supported by his own government in an address to the U.S. Congress on Wednesday (July 24) was “odd”, an analyst told Reuters, and his remarks seemed designed to cater to Republicans in the audience. Khaled Elgindy of the Middle East Institute (MEI) said that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has become an increasingly partisan issue in U.S. politics, and noted that many Democrats chose not to attend Netanyahu’s speech.
