The average price of new car roe to $32,000 in 2018, and monthly payments average $525, sccording to Edmunds. It gets worse when people take out 5- 6- or 7-year loans. Buyers can find themselves underwater. An option: lease rather than buy, or just buy a cheaper car so you don't waste your money.
