Pro-Palestine protests turned violent in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, July 24, as thousands took to the streets to protest Israel’s actions in Gaza while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Congress.

Video footage captured by journalist Brendan Gutenschwager shows the demonstrations escalating, beginning with the release of smoke bombs.

Protesters were then seen removing an American flag from the DC Union Station flagpole and setting it on fire.
