"Stress, pushing Omar Rodriguez over the edge. 'It’s extremely stressful. Because we are trying to accommodate these hospitals that keep calling us trying to get bodies out of there morgue because they're running out of space.'
Rodriguez is a funeral director in Queens, but for days now, his phone has not stopped ringing. 'Because we're getting families crying on the phone to us.' As the city’s system for burials is completely overwhelmed, Rodriguez was scheduled to pick up the remains of two people for cremation today from Elmhurst Hospital. Instead the remains were loaded intotrailers like this one and brought here to Bander's (sp?) Island. Rodriguez waited for six hours before he was finally able to gain access to the trailers. 'What is not efficient is Funeral Directors having to go dumpster diving in these makeshift morgues where we're stepping on people's loved ones and dragging them over other loved ones.'
