Michigan State Police say Mitchell was charged after a device which is used to eavesdrop was installed during a private board meeting in March of 2023. Kalamazoo Township Supervisor Don Martin says Mitchell had fired two fire officials and another employee before the meeting, so Mitchell believed the meeting was about him. Mitchell has pleaded no contest to a charge of willful neglect of duty as a public officer and is scheduled to be sentenced on August 20th.
