"So what kinda gal are you lookin' for?" Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an awkward romantic comedy movie called Running on Empty, being released this summer starting in August (eventually on VOD later in August). Marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Daniel André, this was originally titled Mort in Sherman Oaks before the new title change, since it's set in the San Fernando Valley. The film follows an odd young man named Mort who discovers he has less than a year to live. After hearing the news, his fiancé leaves him, then he meets Kate using a dating service that matches people by their death dates, all while being stalked by a disturbed pimp. Definitely sounds kooky! Mort sets out on a spirited quest to find meaning in his existence and hopefully the girl of his dreams along the way. The film stars Keir Gilchrist, Lucy Hale, Francesca Eastwood, Rhys Coiro, Jay Pharoah, Lisa Yaro, Monica Potter, Dylan Flashner, Dustin Milligan, and Jim Gaffigan. This romcom seems pretty odd but also mildly amusing.

Running on Empty, formerly known as Mort in Sherman Oaks, is both written and directed by Mexican-American filmmaker Daniel André, making his feature directorial debut after many other shorts previously. Produced by Robert Ogden Barnum, Greg Lauritano, Daniel André, Lucas Jarach, Luke Daniels. This hasn't premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Lionsgate will debut André's Running on Empty in select US theaters first on August 9th, 2024, before on VOD later in the month. Look good?

Lucy Hale, known for her role as Aria Montgomery in Pretty Little Liars, plays a central character in Running on Empty. Hale has also showcased her range in films like Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island. Joining her is Keir Gilchrist, who gained recognition for his portrayal of Sam Gardner in Netflix’s Atypical.

Francesca Eastwood, daughter of legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, will also appear as she continues to make a name for herself with roles in films like M.F.A. and Old. Meanwhile, Rhys Coiro, best known for playing Billy Walsh on Entourage, brings his distinct energy to the cast. Jay Pharoah, formerly of Saturday Night Live, infuses the film with his comedic talent, as seen in 2 Minutes of Fame.

Dustin Milligan, beloved for his role as Ted Mullens on Schitt's Creek, also features alongside the likes of Dylan Flashner, known for roles in The Card Counter and Reagan, and newcomer Lisa Yaro. Monica Potter, acclaimed for her work in Patch Adams and Along Came a Spider, lends her experience, and comedy legend Jim Gaffigan promises to deliver laughs, known for his stand-up specials and roles in Chappaquiddick and Troop Zero.

Produced by an impressive team including Robert Ogden Barnum, Greg Lauritano, Daniel Andre, Lucas Jarach, and Luke Daniels, with executive producers Savoy Brummer, Robert Chan, Ruben Islas, Stanley Preschutti, Alan Pao, Jonathan Zuck, Rick Sasner, Matt Shapira, Joel Michaely, Ashley Waldron, Jeff Rice, Rico Simonini, Gabrielle Almagor, and Tomer Almagor.
