The CHAPS system, which stands for Cargo and Housekeeping Procedures and System, is an online platform that allows customs brokers to electronically file ISF data. We explore two options for filing ISF in CHAPS: Direct Filing and Broker-Filer Filing. Direct Filing involves the customs broker filing the ISF directly on behalf of the clients, while Broker-Filer Filing allows for a collaborative approach by transmitting the ISF data provided by the clients to the CHAPS system. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice should align with the business processes and client preferences. Accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of ISF data are crucial to avoid penalties and clearance delays.
