07.21.24 "Focus of Freedom"

I have just returned from a 4 day conference in Las Vegas, Nevada named *Freedom Fest* which focused on, you guessed it, freedom. This is the second time I have attended *Freedom Fest*. My first time was last year in Memphis, TN.

The conference was large, about 2,200 people. Remember ACIM teaches, "Thoughts increase by being given away. The more who believe in them, the stronger they become." (OrEd.Tx.5.8) 2,200 in-person people (not virtual Zoom people) is a lot of “more” spreading beautiful and happy thoughts of freedom.

I have frequently talked about how important freedom is in ACIM. “Freedom” or “free” is mentioned 652 times in the Course, and don’t forget that you can talk about freedom without mentioning the word. The world “bound” is mentioned 79 times. "The miracle is proof he is not bound by loss or suffering in any form because it can so easily be changed." (OrEd.Tx.30.90) Obviously this is actually about freedom as well, in fact in says the miracle itself proves freedom. “Prison” or “prisoner” is mentioned 59 times. “Chains” is mentioned 41 times. “Slave” or “slavery” is mentioned 32 times. I’m sure there are other freedom related words I am not thinking of right now, however just adding up the ones I’ve mentioned here we get 863 mentions of freedom, or words that immediately bring freedom to mind.

To put this in context, “forgive” or “forgiveness” is mentioned 699 times. So freedom is right at the level of forgiveness (perhaps even higher) as being an important, talked about ACIM concept. Since this is true (and I just showed that it was) why don’t we hear more ACIM teachers and students talk about freedom? I hear plenty of talk about forgiveness all the time, but freedom – rarely ever.

Recently we read this is Workbook Lesson 200, "Freedom is given you where you beheld but chains and iron doors. For you must change your mind about the purpose of the world if you would find escape. You will be bound till all the world is seen by you as blessed.” (OrEd.WkBk.200.5) Look, “freedom,” “chains,” and “bound” all in the same passage! How are you doing right now with seeing the world as blessed? Could you do better? Then join the CMC this Sunday as we focus on freedom once again. Perhaps we will start a trend in the greater ACIM community.
