What's Up With Our Food Supply?

In this episode we are going to chat about what's up with our food supply? Stick around to the end because we also have a HUGE surprise!

Hi - We are Douglas and Keri! In May of 2022 we quit our jobs and sold our home in Denver, Colorado to move to our 36 acre off grid homestead property in Cochise County, Arizona. Follow along with us as we build our homestead from scratch!

I've gone down a rabbit hole you guys...I've straight up GONE RIGHT DOWN! At the age of 53 I'm having some joint inflammation issues and I've doing a lot of research to use food as a cure. I do not believe that many of the diseases we are "expected" to develop as we get older are normal or that we should accept them as a normal part of the aging process.

I'm eliminating GMOs from my diet. I'm by no means perfect at eating a clean, GMO-free and organic diet, but I'm trying! Here's why. Most all GMO crops are grown from "Roundup Ready" seeds. These seeds are developed so that the farmer can blanket spray his crops and the Roundup (made with glyphosates) will only kill the weeds, not the crop. Long term studies are show the rise of diseases on the same curve as the use of glyphosate since the 1970s. Some common diseases are diabetes, obesity, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, ADHD, cancers, dementia, inflammatory disease, autism, and digestive issues. Also, glyphosates damage our gut microbiome which is the main component of our immune system.

Some tips...1. Read labels! Don't know what it is? Don't eat it! 2. Eliminate GMOs. 3. Eat organic. 4. Eat local...know where your food is coming from. 5. Avoid the grocery store if you can and "shop the perimeter" where all the unprocessed foods are at. 6. Eliminate processed foods and make things from scratch...it's cheaper and it tastes SO much better! 7. Focus on your gut health...probiotics and fermented foods are your friend

We shared our BIG surprise! A new little baby girl goat :) She was a surprise because the boy goat we have was fixed last year, but it turns out it didn't work. On Valentine's Day we heard LaVerne making odd noises at 11:30 p.m. I went out to check on her and she was IN LABOR! Wow, what a major blessing and we cannot wait to start milking mama once baby goat is weaned. We need your HELP to name the baby goat...please drop your suggestions in the comments :)
