Imaginative Impressionism -224

A walk-through of academic and then impressionist imaginative paintings with a view to understand their similarities and differences. Two paintings by Sargent and the preliminary work associated are compared with a painting by Ingres along with its preliminary sketching and studies as well.

QUESTION: Would you mind reviewing how Sargent or Benson might have created an imaginative painting since their entire way of working was more like Velasquez’ and impressionistic rather than like the academic painters who work from highly finished outline into modeling, one part after another, and then piecing the whole together?

It would also be very nice to eventually hear about Benson's imaginative paintings and what his process could've been.
