Apurva's(Dr Prashanthi's daughter) dog bite case:

Apurva is my 9 yr old daughter. She loves all animals and so one day she went to meet my neighbor’s ( Betsy) new dog, Sunny. Sunny is brought home from shelter and is being fostered until adoption. Sunny went through lot of troubles in life and wasn’t used to many humans. Apurva thought Sunny needed some training. Neighbor and her started follow-command and take a treat. Sunny was just recovering from heart worm treatments. Something went wrong ( I think Sunny’s reflexes acted up ) and she bit Apurva’s lip by mistake as she was coming to get her treat.

Betsy washed her, iced up and brought her to me. Immediately took Apurva to my husband’s ER. He asked me calmly if it was a pit-bull? We settled her and he sutured her face carefully along her lip line and made sure there is no puckering.

As we got ready to leave, Ujwal said "I know we don’t do any vaccines but it’s a dog bite and super dirty bites, how about some antibiotics orally or a cream ?"

I replied I trust her body and I know her well, she has nothing filthy to offer to those scavengers, all she is needs is rest.

He said ok keep an eye and watch for any signs of swelling, fever and redness out of the normal ranges.

Brought her back home ..

We started physical rest - no school. We had a dog bite vacation. She sat in her cozy spot with her books and blankets. I took time off and just chill laxed at home.

�physiological rest - started her on fruit, smoothie and juices. No cooked food for few days until she wanted some. To help her body start repairing and not taxing her digestion( conservation of energy)

Psychological rest - no school, no stress, zero fear about the accident.

Even after the dog bite she kept saying how much she loves animals, how it’s not Sunny’s fault, how sick Sunny was. And she went back to talk to Sunny and rest of the dogs in the neighborhood.

She went back to school when she felt like it. And we already informed school, so they sent cards, lot of kids came to help her out and said she was very brave ( that made her even more happier)

We took her stitches out on 7th day. Taking her stitches out involved more tears. Betsy came over to hold her while we removed them.

Now she has a tiny scar under lip but not a huge cosmetic deformity as I thought initially.

Rabies:

Rabies is huge scam just like any virus. Now it has turned into a billions of dollar industry with pet vaccines. Usually no animal will bite out of the blue unless they were traumatized, hungry, scared or attacked. And any animal eating their natural diet will not harbor pathological scavengers. Entire rabies is made up story and most of the hydrophobia we see is due to fear after the attack and inadequately treated dirty wounds. The whole isolation and culturing of rabies virus is questionable. So how can we even prove it’s existence just based on some hearsay ?!

Tetanus doesn’t happen in well aerated, clean wounds. And there is no guarantee that TT shot will prevent tetanus from happening in dirty wounds. Better to aerate, clean the tissue well before suturing.

Dr Prashanthi's personal experience:

As a cardiologist years ago I was exposed to young migrant worker who hitch-hiked from borders. He came in unresponsive with fever and I did trans-esophageal echo on him. I was exposed to his oropharynx and nasal secretions. There was rumour he died from Rabies as he was hiding in caves with bats before he could get his ride and all his work up for other things was negative. We were all asked to take rabies shots. I refused including many others. And no one ended up with rabies. And this was in 2009!
