EXCERPT: "Welcome to the Shuv Show. I’m your host, Christene Jackman.
Tonight’s topic is: “Only Tough Times Bring Out This Element.”
Experiencing tough times can have benefits. Listen to this account from Israel.
Israeli Scientists believe they have found that the desert wildflower, called “Fragrant Star” (Kochav Reichani) exhibits anti-cancer properties. This desert bush plant grows in the Aravah, Negev and Judean Deserts, and close to the Dead Sea. The Arava Science Center used an extract of the plant to treat mice with lymphoma. After 24 to 48 hours, 50 percent of the cancer cells died, while healthy cells were left unharmed.
Dr. Rivki Ophir, who headed the research team at the Yair Research Center, said that the processes observed were “very similar to the processes that allow conventional chemotherapy to fight human cancer cells . . . Our findings are not a coincidence,” she added. “The Aravah, it is said, is a unique area that allows the natural development of desert plants with many medicinal properties, because they survive severe stress conditions including lack of rain, extreme heat, radiation, and more. To survive, they produce unique organic materials.”
I saw a YouTube video where she explains how she tried to grow the plant in a greenhouse, but these failed to product the organic element that had the cancer killing properties. It appears the plant must be in the desert stressed environment to produce it. That’ll preach.
One thing I’ve learned is that when something goes wrong, like an inconvenient flat tire, an air conditioner fail in the summer heat; or waking up to find that your big watermelon has messily exploded all over your kitchen—and that before your first cup of coffee—when disappointments and tough times come, your true inner self emerges.
Yep. This morning, I entered my darkened kitchen, feet promptly skidding. The glass in my hand went hurtling to the floor, shattering on impact, mingling with watermelon pulp. What a way to wake up. I confess, I said a choice word or two. But at least I didn’t bang doors and yell. I’ve made progress 😊
Now these types of things are minor, but they still are revealing. Major traumas, even more so.
Does God mean it when He says this:
Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose.”
Yes. He means it. How many things? All things. But note, not for everyone: but to those who love God, called according to His purpose. And the statement, “those who love God,” has covenantal overtones in the Hebraic mindset of the Scriptures. Love = Covenantal Faithfulness. It is not just a warm squishy feeling. That’s Hollywood, not reality . . . "
