In The past I have bought large sized flashlights from AliExpress and other online retailers, making outlandish claims for the devices which soon proved not to be true. So I was pleased to obtain a similarly sized device but this time from the well known and respected brand of Vastfire.

In the plain unbranded white box, I received the torch itself, a very short USB-C charging cable and a shoulder strap. No instructions or information sheet was included. I did, however, receive an unexpected gift, which I believe is standard for all purchases, of a small sized rechargeable UV light disclosing torch, which I will touch on my review.

The torch is impressively large at 5.08 x 3.81 x 25.4 cm with a front lens diameter of 53mm and weighs in at a pretty hefty 226g. The body is made from aluminium alloy. Midway down, is a gromett protected bay containing the USB-C charging port and the USB A power out port – yes, the flashlight is also a power bank. On the other side is the single control button with above it the OLED battery status display panel. Also on the shaft of the torch is the 30 x 20 mm COB light which displays a two stage white light and a solid and strobing red light. There are lugs front and rear to connect the supplied shoulder strap. The torch claims to be IPX6 waterproof, so it should be fine in the rain.

The Amazon listing claims that it is the 'World's Brightest Flashlight' and at different parts of the listing claims a light output of 9000000, 10000 and 12000 lumens. Well, whatever the true figure this is certainly a super bright torch and possibly the brightest I have yet tested.

The internal battery is supposed to be 1000mAh and I have no reason to doubt this. There is a USB A output port to allow the torch to work as a power bank and this it does. and although not particularly fast it will allow you to charge or top up your phone or other USB device.

The performance of the torch is better than I expected and pulling the lens head zooms the lens allowing it to emit a tight narrow beam of light that looks like a searchlight when projected into the night sky. The widest beam angle, when fully pulled back is an impressive 150° and the beam is wide enough to fully cover the room from a short distance. I have to say the output from this torch is very impressive indeed with the only feature lacking being the ability to focus the light beam.

The VA-F08 flashlight was bundled with a small ultraviolet light disclosing torch. The tiny rechargeable flashlight can be used to reveal dried up stains and organic markings invisible to the naked eye. It would be useful for pet owners who suspect their pet of having soiled the floor in their absence.

So how does it compare to my £15 budget AliExpress rival? Both torches are about the same as regards brightness and features but the Vastfire feels far better constructed, being made from metal rather than plastic, and features a removable rather than hard-wired battery. So in my view is worth paying more than three times the price of the cheapo rival.

For the price of around £65 this is an excellent buy. If you want a large and powerful torch at a reasonable price, then this could be what you need.
