Dog bites likely cost us over $30 BILLION per year, and that is a very conservative estimate. We have spent over $1 Billion the last two years in a row on home owners insurance for dog bites, and that covers less than 3% (17k to 19k) of the total incidents per year. And it does not cover the more dangerous types of dogs like pitbulls, and does not even cover the total cost of those 3% of incidents... it does not cover lost wages, lost jobs, health insurance, disability, death, people who quit their jobs because of all the dogs they have to deal with (and that does happen), people who are afraid to walk, jog, cycle, go to work etc... because of dogs... We have over 316,200 emergency room visits per year because of dog bites and over 750,000 total incidents per year, so we are likely spending over $30 BILLION per year on dog bites.
