The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when residents at a mobile home community on West 9th Street near West Mission Boulevard called police about a man waving a gun and firing shots in the air.

Arriving officers issued commands for the suspect to drop the gun, but he did not comply.

Video of the incident shows officers with guns drawn approaching the suspect, who was walking around with his hands raised.

At one point, the man appears to walk toward a gate of one of the homes. Moments later, two shots can be heard.

“A male fired at the officers. An officer-involved shooting occurred, and the male was wounded and transported to a local hospital,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Daniel Vizcarra said.

The unidentified man was listed in stable condition and was expected to survive, a law enforcement official confirmed.

The spokesperson said the suspect, who had not been cooperating with investigators, was also expected to be arrested later Thursday morning.

The Sheriff’s Department is assisting Pomona police with the shooting investigation.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.
