Did Water Fix a Loose Canvas For Good? 3 Yrs Later

How to tighten a loose canvas without wedges. A saggy canvas will look like there are waves of shadows on your painting. I tried fixing this loose and saggy canvas by spraying water on it 3 years ago. Did it work? Was it a permanent solution? Did it start sagging again after enough time has passed?
