Raag Bhairvi named after Hindu goddess Bhairvi usually sung in early morning and produces a rich, devotional atmosphere especially suitable for the genres of Bhajan and the light classical form of Thumri. Additionally, Dhrupad is another genre in Sub Continental classical music. It is the oldest known style of major vocal styles. The term denotes both the verse form of the poetry and the style in which it is sung. It is spiritual, heroic, thoughtful, virtuous, embedding moral wisdom or solemn form of song-music combination. Classical music in Dhrupad style is very rare these days because it is very difficult to master.
Now being performed by young flutist Mah Noor Tanveer, her sister Mah Rukh Tanveer is accompanying her on Pakhwaj. Pakhawaj is another ancient percussion instrument and very few professional artists play it in Pakistan. Mah Rukh is next in line.
Interestingly both are my music class fellows. We all are disciples of Ustad Muhammad Hanif Khan. This performance is a true combination of ancient instruments and style. Hope you will Like it.
